Just read switchblades post and when i started my comment it got so huge and it just contained what i thought abt religiona nd god and other stuff so ithought might as well put it up as a post :D
He was talikn abt Dan brown,da vinci code ,catholic church...
so here go my views :
All religions r based on faith.. moment u start askin questions.. u start shakin that faith..and thats when the religious leaders get scared coz they bank on people blindly followin them.. so acc to me ther should be basicall NO religious leaders just a lot of books on how to b a good human being that u could read and interpret them.. humans will always acknowledge that there is a divine elemt in our lives.. we dnt hav indoctrinate ourselves that there is God and that is all powerful and he doesnt do anything wrong..
people would realise the divine hand in their lives sooner or later..
they dnt need to go to a temple or church or anypther religious place to realise the existence of god..
temples,churches etc should be used as palce to go sit and just feel peace..
i believ there is a GOD , i dnt claim to kno who he is.. i dnt claim to kno how he works.. but i am sure i wouldnt mind if my god was a lil human ie u kno he was married had kids or whatever.. smhow that would make me feel closer to HIM..
mayb its my hindu upbringing u kno.. reading abt Krishna and all which makes me open to the fact that god may hav his follies too.. i believ GOD errs when children die... i believ he errs when women r raped.. i believ god errs when innocent r masacred in genocides..i believ he errs when a young woman becomes a widow..
i believ he errs when lil children without any kind of bad karma r abused and murdered.....
I believ he errs smtimes but then.........
.....he does miracles when the mother dies in an accident and the child in her womb survives..
when there is a huge mishap and people survive..
i think we hav HIM always arnd us smtimes he is nice to us , smtimes he is unjust .. well smtimes he could hav a been a lil busy ;D.. but i think he always gives us smthin to hold on to , smthing to love ,smthin to cherish.. so that we dnt die...
he gives us hope.. and that i think id his BIGGEST miracle that no matter what he always gives us sm hope..
And in circumstances that he cannot giv HOPE is when he calls us closer to him and we die...
and when he can giv us no hope and and doesnt call us to him is when he ERRS again
what i am basically sayin is that we should be open to stuff which goes against our views..
there might be a grain of truth in what Dan says.. right?.. if yes thn let us keep the possiblity of jesus being slightly human open right? :)
If i didnt believ God ALSO errs i would nt be able to live with all the injustice around me..
What i hav just told u guys is my security blanket against all the BAD things in the world.
i kno my Blankie has a lot of holes in it but it helps me :|

Hmm...that was a pretty long post by my standards. And very serious too.
My views are different. I don't believe that God errs.
But lets agree to disagree :)
I too beleive that God does not err. I beleive that he does everything with full knowledge of everything. It is we in our limited wisdom who cannot understand his infinite wisdom.
what can we not understand abt his infinite wisdom when a child is getting raped and abused!!!
I guess i'll just say that you are USING your idea of God for your own ends. Faith doesn't work that way. And this coming from me, i can barely stand the irony.
And hey although i dont usually do this,lest ppl think i'm publicizin my own blog, but i think u ought to read this up. Tis my take on religions and God, and since you were on the topic, and i was too lazy to express my opinions all over again....

Intersting post...but it seems to me that rather that find out the true attributes and characters of God you have an assumption of what He might be like.
Remember when we try to imagine what God might be like we are trying to fathom the eternal infinite God using a finite mind which is impossible.
I believe that God does not err and the problems in this world like the rapes and murders are because of sin and God is sinless so we cant blame Him.We can only blame ourselves (i.e humans)
He is God and we are made in His image but that certainly doesnt mean that He has any of our human shortcomings.
This isnt MY view but the view of the Bible and its the view i subscribe to firmly. And as Raj said we can agree to disagree :)

I believe that there is only 1 god. And i believe that rather than being superstitious we should try to b good human being and try to learn good things from teachings. Agar mann saaf hai to sab aacha hai. And thats very true that religions r based on faith.
We need to go to religious places ALSO to realise the existence of God.
As u said that all religions are based on faith, it's only the faith that brings us to the Temple or the Church.
There need to have some seriousness and concentration to reach to Him spiritually, and these are the right places according to my faith. it's nothing like God lives in Temples or mosques.
We can find peace of mind by relaxing anywhere not necessarily in a temple or a Church. Schools/ College are meant for learning and studying not for playing football.
Religious leaders are the teachers..and their roles in the society can not be ignored too.
According to me, God does know what's happening around and he is evenly fair to evryone.

Hey Akanksha, im sorry but i was a bit unclear about what i said..
I didnt mean that it is the rape/murder victim who commits the sin and hence is being punished by God..what i meant was it is the sin on the part of the person who commits the crime.
All of us sin..some in small ways(lying) others in much worse ways(raping/murdering like you mentioned) but the fact of the matter is all of us are sinners.
We have been gifted with a free will from God. As we are inherent sinners some of us use this free will to commit crimes. God should not be held responsible for such atrocities.

umm i do not know...sometimes i belive sometimes i do not may be i am too moody for this kind of stuff
ok i've not really read this as i'm a bit pushed for time at the moment and had a lot on my mind...however i'm not religious, i've never been overly religious, i don't have a problem with faith and religion, in fact i encourage people to believe what they want to, i believe that some people need to have that faith, that something to believe in to help them when times are tough and/or hard. sometimes i wish i had something there to believe in at those times.

i agree with quite a few things, especially about being open to views that are not necessarily yours own or in fact contradict your own belief system. people are free to believe what they choose, but at the same time people should be open to other people's beliefs and respect that. there will always be issues relating to religion and clashing cultures, example, i can't think of a major war in recent history (or longer than that) which hasn't been rooted in religion.

As much as i would like to romantically imagine that these god-like people walked amongst us... i doubt it. Jesus, Nanak, Mohammad... iam sure all started out as just plain human beings.

Just see our present day Sai Baba. Millions literally believe he is God. In this day & age. Can u imagine the effect in a world without science & rationality?
with all the things that are happening in the world, i really dont know what to believe anymore.at one moment im saying "thank god", the next minute im cursing him because in this day and age humanity still faces shit that they dont have to. where is god when natural calamities take place?then again, god is what i pray to before my exam results.ah whatever.this needs more time.

And I won't play a Narendra Modi by quashing what you say. But in my mind there is only one thing rthat is perfect and that is God. Everything else is imperfect and I think its not possible for us to just like that think abt GOD and imagine whats God's perfectness like.
And I too was confused lately with rgds to what the religious scriptures proposed.
It was like this..We shud all follow God's path, because thats the path of truth. And anyways why shud we bother about following a path of our own, when everything is being done by God's will.
Now that was confusing to me. I felt if everything is done by Gods will, then the very fact that I am on a path of my own, is by God's will isn't it? So i though this whole concept of heaven and hell and good deeds and bad deeds have no significance because everything that is happening is by His will.
This thought disturbed be no end. And thats when my ma stepped in and told me that this very doubt is infact the first step towards realising His greatness or perfectness:). And she told me if I concentrate on this I'll get the answer myself very soon. Through some happening, some news, anything. But soon this doubt of mine will be taken care of.
There is no one way how we find the answer. Each finds the answer in his own way. I too found it, in a very unreligious way. And the answer would be such that it will explain everything to you, in other words there won't be any doubt inside you, but ofcourse you'll have difficulties explaining it to others. Like my mom couldnt satisfy me but was herself satisfied all the time.
